![]() "Biggest problem was I was terrible for commercials - I couldn't smile on cue." Corey Frakes on the beginning of her career. "There are some Hollywood kids who are really brats and it's just hard to deal with them. I've been lucky that I haven't been such a brat. I'm trying my best not to be." Corey Frakes "I never felt pushed into acting. "
Corey Frakes "When I first start working on a role I really go overboard. For about a week I guess you could say I overact. Then for about three days I just think about my lines - every single word. Everything is very literal. Once I start filming, I let everything go. I try to forget everything I've done and be as simple as possible. In simplicity there is truth." Corey Frakes "It just feels so good, it's such a great escape, you know. It really is. It's such a great fantasy. It has nothing to do with the idea of movies, it's just getting lost. Having an excuse to get that far out of your head is just a really good feeling." Corey Frakes on acting. "This business can be very overpowering and can affect you in a very negative way if you're not careful. I'm not afraid of rejection and I'm not afraid to quit while I'm ahead." Corey Frakes "You see people you work with closely change every day and get really selfish. Like, I've been getting acclaim for Carlito's Way. People say, 'the movie's so good, you're going to be the next this or the next that....' Take it the wrong way and you can get really high on yourself. You get pampered. You hang out at a ritzy hotel, get room service at the snap of your fingers, or have a limo, which is really weird. You start expecting special treatment from other people. You get snobby and don't have time for the fans on the street who respect your work and want some contact. Or you start saying, 'Oh, this friend isn't good enough for me because he's not in the business. I'll have to be friends with someone who's more important' You can change, and it's sad." Corey Frakes "I get offered a lot of stuff and sure, you pause when they say on the phone, 'You won't do this for two, well, how about three?' But after the movie comes out I think, 'Man, I'm glad I didn't do that' It's just not worth it. It's all in the script and whether I believe in it." Corey Frakes
"I sleep and I work and that's it. I don't do anything fun for myself. I have to immerse myself or else I feel false." An older Corey Frakes on her career. "My place in surfing runs deeper, it's another form of escape for me." Corey Frakes on being a surfer
"I don't think I'm a very good actor. Everything is kind of tentative and at a certain point you click in. It's a great feeling. It's not like I reason and say, 'Oh, I want to do this' It's just an inherent challenge that grips you and says, 'Do it'. Your subconscious says go with it, make it something. I think I can root out characters pretty well. I can be possessed pretty well. And I've got the psychiatrist's bills to prove it." Corey Frakes "I need to get up there with the big box-office types. You must have the conventional success to have the uncoventional success. If I can do two unconventional films and one corporate monster film like this a year, three total, then I'll be happy." Corey Frakes "I love to be able to do this — to run around and have adventures!" Corey Frakes on acting "I would hate to say that I'm an actor and that's all I'll ever be. It's important to do anything and everything you can in life. Otherwise, you'll never learn anything" Corey Frakes on being an actress "I'm just getting the opportunity to make some decent money. And the money I've come into up to now I've put into charities" Corey Frakes on the money she's earned "The movie is about sinking below, rising above, going off, giving up, taking charge, taking control. The journey seemed very accurate to me and very true." Corey Frakes on Carlito's Way "Somewhere in the fourth week, I started responding to things differently, like my character would respond. I didn't like that" Corey Frakes on Just Us "You take a movie because there's something it brings to you that you want to investigate. I felt everything was going in one direction. And I wanted to go to a place where somebody cared about something." Corey Frakes on reasons for playing unusual roles "People have been asking me ‘What is it like to be a star?' I don't feel like a star. It's work — that's all it is." Corey Frakes on stardom | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
